Light and easy 3D mesh CAD design software featuring post-processing and a collection of modules with its own scripting language.
Gmsh is a free and open source CAD designer app and 3D editor developed by Christophe Geuzaine and Jean-Francois for Windows. It's portable, advanced, well-designed, user friendly and light on system resources.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of Gmsh to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this CAD designing program.
3D finite element mesh generator with processing facilities
Gmsh is a free 3D finite element mesh generator with a built-in CAD engine and post-processor. Its design goal is to provide a fast, light and user-friendly meshing tool with parametric input and advanced visualization capabilities. Gmsh is built around four modules: geometry, mesh, solver and post-processing. The specification of any input to these modules is done either interactively using the graphical user interface, in ASCII text files using Gmsh's own scripting language (.geo files), or using the C++, C, Python or Julia API.

Compatibility and License
Gmsh has been released under the open source GPL license on Windows from 3D design. The license provides the options to freely download, install, run and share this program without any restrictions. The source code for Gmsh should be freely available and modifications are certainly permitted as well as the option to inspect the software.
What version of Windows can Gmsh run on?
Gmsh can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads.
